There are many people who suffer from a sleeping disorder such as insomnia, night terrors, and restless leg syndrome. There are more serious disorders such as REM sleep disorder in which people act out their dreams during the night, thus leading the harm for those who are in the bed with them as they kick and punch.
Sleep apnea is another sleeping disorder which can be dangerous to a person’s health. A person with sleep apnea will stop breathing during the night, usually hundreds of times. When the person stops breathing, he will usually wake himself up briefly and start to breathe again. However, the person is still being deprived of oxygen consistently during the night and is also not allowing his body to go into deep sleep.
In these cases, the person will feel very tired all of the time, even when he is getting seven to eight hours of sleep. He may also wake up with a headache in the morning due to the oxygen deprivation in the night.
There are sleep apnea cures that range from home treatments to cures that are surgical procedures. Usually, the doctors will start with a sleep apnea cure that starts with lifestyle changes. The person may be told to lose weight if excess weight if he is overweight and the tissue is pressing into the airway.
The person may also be told to stop smoking and drinking alcohol if he does so on a regular basis since both those activities cause the muscles of the throat to relax. When the muscles relax, they are not as able to hold the airway open when the other tissues press on it.
If the person has a more extreme case of sleep apnea, the sleep apnea cure may involve a machine or device that will help him to breathe in the night. One sleep apnea cure is to use a CPAP machine which keeps the airflow to the person constant through the use of a mask that is worn all night.
There are other versions of the CPAP machine in which the airflow is regulated according to whether the person is breathing in or out. There are different masks that can be worn with the machine so that it does not feel so uncomfortable in this sleep apnea cure. There are also devices that are formed by the dentist to go in the mouth to hold the jaw in a certain position that keeps the airway open.
If all of these sleep apnea cures do not work, then the person may have to have surgery. There is one type of surgery that removes the extra tissue in the throat and nasal passages. There is another that removes the tonsils and adenoids so that they do not press on the airway.
