Sleep is something that we all need. Our body during sleep cycles has a chance to rejuvenate itself. When we are constantly dealing with all kinds of stresses throughout our everyday we really do need to give our systems time to stop and be able to shut down.
What Does Sleep Do For Me?
Throughout the night your brain has a chance to calm itself down. During any particular sleep cycle your short term memory centers have a chance to flush themselves for new ideas. Our hormones have sufficient amounts of time to put themselves back in check in turn creating a “clean slate” for the next day.
When we wake up in the mornings we should feel as though we are refreshed and rejuvenated. Ready to tackle any task that may require any type of brain function such as remembering an important date or a lecture in class.
When you are not getting sufficient amounts of sleep you may become forgetful and irritated. You may also be in a constant fog that doesn’t seem to subside. Along with these psychological effects there are physical effects. These physical consequences can wreak havoc on your immune system. You may become sick more often; you may also start gaining weight because your hormones are confused.
See a Doctor
If you suspect that you may have a sleep problem you should see your physician. Some sleep disorders can be life threatening. Some things such as sleep apnea which causes you to stop breathing while you are asleep and narcolepsy which causes you to fall asleep at the drop of a dime. Just these two sleep disorders alone can prevent you from functioning normally throughout your day. Simple tasks can be unnerving.
Treating Your Sleep Problem

If it is found that you have a sleep problem then your next step is a trying to find some help. Typically medications are the only things that can help you.
There are various forms of medications on the market today that can help you sleep and stay asleep throughout the night so you can wake up refreshed and ready for the day. If you are dealing with a disorder such as narcolepsy you may need to be put on more than one medication for your sleep problem. One medication may be to help you sleep while the other may help you stay awake throughout the next day.
Never Leave It Be
Having a sleeping problem is never something that should be taken lightly. Your sleep problem will not go away no matter how much you think it will. In fact if your sleep problem is left to its own devices it may worsen as time goes on.
